Applied Electronics
The department didactic activities are related to the domains of electronics, micro-electronics, circuit design, integrated circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs), with a deep accent on industry specific disciplines. The following educational and research directions are part of our interests: integrated digital and analogic circuits, power electronics, microcontroller and microprocessor-based systems, artificial intelligence, FPGAs, embedded systems, development of electronic circuits, PCB design, electronic equipment testing. We offer to our students the possibility to interact with modern equipment (Keysight, National Instruments, Microchip, Texas Instruments, ARM) and consolidated software platforms (C, Java, Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB).
Communications
The department prepares the faculty students on fundamental aspects of modern electronic engineering, with emphasis on the field of telecommunications, presenting the principles which lie at the basis of telecommunication equipment and showing how these systems are operated, in order to facilitate the access of the students on the job market. The department offers courses on deterministic and random signal processing, information theory, communication networks, radiocommunications, emphasizing on the design, implementation and performance evaluation of communication systems, essential for the 5G era. At the practical lab works, emphasis is placed on advanced topics on computer and software engineering.
A special place is taken by multimedia technologies, where students get familiar with topics like web interactive applications, mobile devices programming, augmented and virtual reality, open data, principles of smart cities and open-science concepts.
Our students benefit from the most modern equipment purchased with own funds, of the government and private telecom companies, a remarkable example being the two LTE platforms which are recently installed in our department laboratories. Some courses are available freely at http://www.tc.etc.upt.ro/teaching, respectively password protected on https://intranet.etc.upt.ro or on the university Virtual Campus (https://cv.upt.ro).
Measurements and Optical Electronics
The department focuses on providing knowledge in the domain of measurement techniques and instrumentation, on understanding the principles and functionalities of measurement devices as well as on other disciplines with great impact on today’s technological context. The following didactic directions are part of our expertise: electromagnetic compatibility, sensors and biosensors, virtual instrumentation, biomedical instrumentation, graphical programming, processor-based signal analysis, noise analysis, high frequency techniques or boundary scan testing. Our students work with state-of-the-art equipment (from producers like National Instruments, BK Precision, Keysight, Hameg, Texas Instruments, Raspberry, Digilent, Analog Devices, XJTAG, Red Pitaya) and well-established software platforms (LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, C++). Additionally, we support different courses from other specializations such as applied electronics, telecommunications, automation and computers, energetics, electrotechnics or distance education.
Our research (fundamental/applicative) domains of activity are electronic and electrical measurements, electrical measurements of non-electrical measurands/quantities, electronic instrumentation, electromagnetic compatibility, optical electronics and signal processing.
